It's Fall! And Fall makes me think of Football along with other sports. Athletics can put a tremendous strain on a body. Sports like football, cross country, volleyball, and basketball push a body to it's limits and often times beyond, causing injury. Seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis can be a great way to help manage the stresses that come to a body during these physically demanding events.
Injury prevention. Regular adjustments will enable the body to move correctly. This allows blood flow and nerve function to help heal areas that are injured or strained. When all these functions are working correctly, you are less likely to become injured due to hard workouts and during competition.
Drug free treatment. Taking medications to help with pain has a delayed response time and in some cases has addictive tendencies. Chiropractic care offers a natural, chemical free relief for athletes who need care on a regular basis. There are times though when it could be necessary to use medications for temporary pain relief. However, in the long run it is better to treat the problem and not mask it with medication for a long period of time.
Improved mobility. By allowing the spine and all other joints to move correctly, muscles will function as designed, and allow an athlete's body to move at peak performance during practices and games.
Increased performance. The Palmer College of Chiropractic states that, "regular adjustments keep the spine working smoothly, which in turn boosts the body’s overall performance". In one study, athletes showed a 6.12 percent performance increase after receiving chiropractic treatment. Another study found a 30 percent improvement in eye-hand coordination after 12 weeks of chiropractic care," (Molly 2016). Performance is the most important part of being an athlete, and finding a way to have a leg up on the competition really helps.
Reduced recovery time. After long amounts of strain on the body, the recovery time needed in an athlete is vital. Chiropractors can help to decrease the time needed to recover through regular adjustments throughout the season so the athlete can spend more time training rather than waiting for their body to heal.
Dr.'s side note: The body is made up of moving parts like any other machine. If we want it to run properly and efficiently we need maintenance on those moving parts. Chiropractic manipulations and massage help dramatically in that maintenance.
